How can I get into Indie music?

I love Wizard Rock (if you don't know what that is, it's bands that play music about Harry Potter). One of my favorite aspects of it is the indie feel of it, the small concerts, no record labels on the CD's etc. But I know that Wizard Rock won't last forever (even though the memories will always be in my heart) and I want to get into other indy kind of bands. But I don't know where to start! Any suggestions you can give me are appreciated. Thank you!
