How come in most hostage situations the religion of the person isn't discussed unless they aren't Christian?

Have you also noticed that in tragic situations it�s also noted that �The victims include e.g. 8 women and children� The children bit I understand - adds to the tragedy, but what�s the point of specifying women? It should read ...e.g. victims include 30 ADULTS and 5 children.
